Management Committee

An eclectic group of experienced executives

Between the late 70s and mid-90s, eight teenagers from Hong Kong, Australia, England and Malaysia began their paths of convergence. Two teenagers dreamt of turning pro in tennis and in gambling; one aspired to be a world-class Le Cordon Bleu-trained pâtissier; and four others dreamed of professional success as an engineer, a mathematician, a lawyer and an accountant. The leader of this pack, notably, aspired to become a policeman fending off bullies in a rough neighbourhood.

These eight teenagers honed their skills in their respective fields and eventually brought all to bear on HKBN as the Management Committee.

Chief Legal Officer
‘Be strong and stay open-minded’

Born and raised in Malaysia, Agnes furthered her studies in Australia. In 1994, she relocated to Hong Kong and immediately began her telecommunications journey through a broad range of cumulative knowledge and experiences that have covered all facets of legal, policy, regulatory and the interconnection issues. She was a primogenitor in competing with the incumbent when the Hong Kong government deregulated the local fixed-line market in 1995, which led to the issuance of additional local fixed telecommunication network services licences. Over the years, Agnes has played an active role in the establishment of pro-competition regulatory and interconnection regime, through close engagement and negotiations with the regulator and industry players.

Prior to the merger with WTT, Agnes was WTT’s Vice President, Legal, Regulatory and Carrier Affairs. In her current capacity, Agnes brings over her extensive experience to advance HKBN Group’s interests in legal and regulatory areas.

Before relocating to Hong Kong, Agnes worked as in-house counsel and in private practice in Australia. She worked with BHP Billiton Limited in its Sydney office specialising in technology licensing, intellectual property rights protection and their commercialisation.

Agnes holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University. She is also a member of the Telecommunications Regulatory Affairs Advisory Committee, Office of the Communications Authority. Agnes has committed to become one of our proud Co-Owners.

Outside of work Agnes enjoys travelling and reading. She likes to stay active and is open to trying new things. Her favourite sport is skiing, as it requires focus or the risk of serious injury. At a young age it was her cousin, a lawyer himself, who inspired her to pursue this profession at a time and place where it was rare for one, let alone a young woman, to seek higher education abroad. If she were not a lawyer, she would likely be found enjoying more creative and ‘hands-on’ pursuits including pottery, painting, and home décor. Agnes has committed to become one of our proud Co-Owners.
