Digital Inclusion for Our Communities

Digital Inclusion for Our Communities

By harnessing our competitive advantage in technology and telecommunications, we’re taking action to bridge the digital divide within our communities – made possible through empowering digital literacy and cyber wellness, as well as by removing the barriers for digital access.

Our Digital Inclusion Priorities

We’re committed to providing accessible and reliable services, and also promoting digital technologies as solutions to address societal needs for groups like the elderly, youths, people with disabilities, low-income households, and others. Through our many CSI (Corporate Social Investment) initiatives, we strive to achieve positive digital inclusion outcomes by prioritising three key areas, namely, Access, Skills and Use.

Break Down Barriers to Technology Access

We are committed to breaking down barriers that prevent marginalised groups and NGOs from fully participating in the digital world. In addition to offering free and affordable broadband and mobile services to disadvantaged communities, we actively bridge the digital divide by providing NGOs with discounted ICT solutions. We launched “Digital Inclusion Broadband Gift Programme” in partnership with NGOs. Through this programme, we delivered two years of complimentary 1Gbps home broadband to 1,000 eligible underprivileged individuals and families—empowering them with seamless connectivity for education, work, and daily life.

Empower Communities ICT Skills

At HKBN, we empower communities by building ICT capabilities that improve quality of life, strengthen social connectivity, and unlock economic and educational opportunities. We provide practical digital skills through interactive activities such as the “TEENgineer Programme”, which equips youths with essential IT skills, and the “HKBN Digital Café”, which helps seniors confidently master digital ordering. At the same time, we enhance NGOs’ efficiency and service delivery through ICT adoption and training, including IT project management. NGOs can also join our free-of-charge HKBN NGO IT Club to tackle daily operational challenges.

Promote Safe and Healthy Use of Technology

Digital safety begins with knowledge, and one of the most effective ways we can make an impact is through community education. For this reason, we continue to collaborate with community partners to provide learning opportunities on topics such as information security, personal data protection, cyber empathy, and more.

Some of our past initiatives include cybersecurity workshops for seniors and children, and the innovative "Dr. X’s Mysterious Paint: The Internet Hunt" cyber wellness programme, which has empowered thousands of primary school students with digital safety knowledge and confidence. “Cyber Wellness in the Dark”, a unique learning experience developed in collaboration with Dialogue In The Dark (HK) Foundation, designed to engage youths to understanding safe online practices.

Create Shared Value via HKBN NGO IT Club

As digital technology continues to reshape society, many non-governmental organisations (NGOs), whose mission is to enable our communities – risk falling behind. To address this, HKBN established the NGO IT Club in 2023, a free-of-charge initiative designed to bridge the digital divide for Hong Kong’s NGO community. Through this centralised platform, NGOs can access pro-bono workshops, technical consultations and other initiatives that build digital capacity. Recognising that many NGOs lack the resources to keep pace with rapid technological change, the NGO IT Club provides expertise and support in areas like AI, cybersecurity, IT training, workflow digitalisation, as well as offering discounts on HKBN ICT solutions.

Strategically, these efforts create shared value (CSV) - strengthening our business while enabling NGOs to deliver greater impact to the communities they serve. For NGOs interested in connecting with us, please email csi@hkbn.com.hk.
