1. When should I purchase my HKBN SmartTraveller Plus?
You should consider purchasing HKBN SmartTraveller Plus once you have paid for your transportation or hotel
rooms for your trip, so that you can be covered for loss of deposit and trip cancellation under specific events.
You can purchase HKBN SmartTraveller Plus as early as 180 days prior to your departure. Keep in mind that
coverage for loss of deposit or cancellation of journey varies depending on the different situations and period
of time before your trip, so it's important to carefully review the policy wording for specific details.
Additionally, it's essential to remember that if a policy purchased after a trip has begun is invalid, so make
sure to purchase your travel insurance in a timely manner.
2. Is it possible for me to purchase HKBN SmartTraveller Plus for my family, friends, or relatives, even if I
am not traveling with them? And what is the process for making a claim in such case?
Certainly. With HKBN SmartTraveller Plus, you can cover up to 20 people in a single application under our
single journey plan, even if you are not traveling together with them. In the event of a claim, each insured
adult, considered a policyholder, should personally initiate the process. For an insured child, the adult
registered as a parent or guardian at the time of the application should submit the claim on behalf of the
child, and any benefits payable will be disbursed to that registered parent or legal guardian.
3. Am I able to purchase HKBN SmartTraveller Plus for the children of my friends or relatives? Is it possible
for a child to be covered by HKBN SmartTraveller Plus if they are not traveling with their parent or legal
guardian?
Certainly, you can purchase the HKBN SmartTraveller Plus single journey plan for the children of your
friends or relatives. However, please note that the full premium will be charged to the children if their parent
or legal guardian is not insured under the same policy. Additionally, children under the age of 12 must be
accompanied by an adult in order to be covered by HKBN SmartTraveller Plus.
4. What are the respective maximum durations per journey for the single journey plan and the annual cover
plan under HKBN SmartTraveller Plus?
Under the single journey plan, HKBN SmartTraveller Plus can cover trips lasting up to 360 days. For
frequent travelers, our annual plan provides coverage for up to 90 days per trip, with an unlimited number of
trips allowed within the policy year of 365 day.
5. What are the eligibility requirements for purchasing HKBN SmartTraveller Plus?
An applicant must be aged 18 or above. For the single journey plan, the insured person must be at least 30
days old with no upper age limit on the departure date. For the annual cover plan, the insured person must be
between 30 days and 75 years old on the policy effective date. Additionally, the journey must originate from
Hong Kong.
Both the applicant and all insured persons must possess a valid Hong Kong identity card.
1. What coverage would I have if a typhoon is hoisted on the day of my departure?
If the trip is delayed more than 6 hours due to a typhoon, the insured person can submit claim under Section
8 (a), (b) and (c) of the policy – Travel Inconvenience, which covers
(a) Cash allowance
(b) Extra overseas accommodation expenses; or irrecoverable deposits or changes for accommodation; and
irrecoverable deposits or changes for missed events
(c) Trip re-routing travel costs (limited to economy class)
Please note that Trip Cancellation could only be triggered if there is adverse weather condition at planned
destination abroad but not in Hong Kong.
2. Can I file a claim for Trip Cancellation / Travel Delay / Trip Curtailment due to the adverse weather such
as typhoon or rainstorm?
Trip Cancellation:
If the trip is cancelled due to adverse weather in the planned destination abroad but not in Hong Kong, the insured
person can submit claim under Section 9 of the policy – Loss of Deposit or Cancellation of Journey, which covers
the irrecoverable deposits or charges of transportation, accommodation or missed events.
Travel Delay:
If the trip is delayed more than 6 hours due to adverse weather, the insured person can submit claim under
Section 8 (a), (b) and (c) of the policy – Travel Inconvenience, which covers
(a) Cash allowance
(b) Extra overseas accommodation expenses; or irrecoverable deposits or changes for accommodation; and
irrecoverable deposits or changes for missed events
(c) Trip re-routing travel costs (limited to economy class)
Trip Curtailment:
If the trip needs to be terminated early and return to Hong Kong due to adverse weather (in the planned
destination abroad but not in Hong Kong), the insured person can submit claim under Section 10 of the policy –
Trip Curtailment, which covers a proportionate return of relevant irrecoverable prepaid cost of the planned trip
including but not limited to travel tickets and missed events or additional transportation (limited to economy
class) and accommodation expenses.
Either travel delay or trip curtailment can be claimed for the loss arising from the same cause.
3. If my scheduled flight is cancelled due to a typhoon and I need to pay extra to get a new ticket, will I get
any benefit?
If the insured person's originally scheduled flight is cancelled due to a typhoon delay of more than 6 hours
after checks in, and therefore need to take another flight or other public transportation to reach the planned
destination, the insured person can submit claim under Section 8(c) of the policy – trip re-routing travel costs
due to travel delay, which covers the additional and irrecoverable costs of travel ticket (limited to economy
class) *.
* If the airline provides any refund, the insured person should provide the corresponding refund confirmation.
Meals & miscellaneous expenses are not covered under this session.
4.If the return trip is affected by a typhoon, how much is the compensation for air tickets and hotels? What
other protections or compensations are there?

5. How can I extend my Insurance Period if I need to reschedule my flight due to adverse weather?
For single journey, if the insured person is unavoidably delayed from returning aboard, we will
automatically extend the period of insurance up to 10 days for free. No registration is required.
For annual cover, each journey duration is up to 90 days.
